Welcome to the Panic - Anxiety Disorders Support Forum!

Support is an essential part of recovery from anxiety disorders. Come meet people who know how you feel, share your experiences, and find support and friendship.

Important: Our Forum is not a crisis hotline. As people who are battling or have battled anxiety disorders, we understand how overwhelming this struggle can be. We want to support you as fully as possible, but if you are in a crisis situation, please contact a crisis hotline, either national or local. You may find information about these here: Crisis and Suicide Help.

Discussion, support, and even healthy debate are encouraged on the board. Outright objectionable posts and flames will be removed.

I look forward to meeting you in the forum!

FAQ

  1. Q. Where am I? What is this forum?
    A. You are at About's Panic / Anxiety Disorders Support Forum which is part of the larger Panic / Anxiety Disorders Web site at About. The Panic / Anxiety Disorders site and forum are maintained by About Guide Cathleen Henning.
  2. Q. What is the purpose of this forum?
    A. The main purpose of the PAD Support Forum is for people with anxiety disorders to provide each other with support and encouragement. Additionally, well-referenced resources and information may also be shared. Friends and family of people with anxiety disorders are encouraged to participate. The forum is not a place to receive medical diagnoses. Medical information may be shared as long as it is referenced by a reputable journal, book, or online resource.
  3. Q. What is an anxiety disorder?
    A. There are several anxiety disorders, actually, which are listed below. If you click on each link, you will find basic information about each anxiety disorder. For an introductory article on anxiety disorders, please read What is an Anxiety Disorder?
  4. Q. How do I post on the forum?
    A. To post on the forum, you must first register for membership with About.com in order to obtain a user name and password. Registration is free. Click here to join.
  5. Q. What is not permitted on the forum?
    A. The following behaviors are not permitted --
    • Personal attacks on other members. Arguments or debates are permitted (if you don't like them, don't read them), but personal attacks or "flames" are over the line.
    • Posting copyrighted materials, such as news articles, poetry, song lyrics, etc. If you don't know whether or not the material you have is copyrighted, then don't post it.
    • Do not tell people that their recovery methods are incorrect. There is no one right treatment for anxiety disorders.
  6. Q. What about medical advice, suggestions or information?
    A. Please use the following guidelines when posting medical information --
    • Do not give medical diagnoses or other medical advice to members.
    • Do not post frightening pharmaceutical or health information without supportive references from reputable journals, books, or online resources.
    • Do not discuss any anxiety treatment as a "cure." Any post using such terminology will be deleted.
  7. Q. May I advertise my website, service, book, survey, etc. on the forum?
    A. On the forum, you will find a folder called "Websites/Services/Books/Etc." This is the appropriate place to post about your anxiety-related website, book, or whatever. However, please read the Welcome message in that section prior to posting, and understand that the site Guide reserves the right to delete any posts deemed inappropriate.
  8. Q. Are any treatments unsuitable for discussion on the forum?
    A. You have the right to discuss any treatments for anxiety disorders. Again, be sure you are following the rules outlined here when doing so. There is a special section on the forum for discussion of medication, although I realize medication will be discussed in other posts in other sections.
  9. Q. What should I do with advice or suggestions I receive on the forum?
    A. When discussing treatments, realize that your doctor, psychiatrist, psychologist and/or other health professionals should be the person or people with whom you discuss your individual treatment. I realize you want to know that others have gone through the same as yourself, but don't ever substitute advice on this forum for proper medical advice.
